Right now, the UN estimates more than 5,700 children are orphaned each day because of HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that over 15 million children have already lost one or both of their parents to this disease. Of the 15 million, 12 million live in sub-saharan Africa.
How big is 15 million? Think of this...if these 15 million children were to link hands and stand in a straight line, they would go from Los Angeles to New York and back again 5 ½ times.
This number is expected to grow to more than 20 million in the next few years. You don't need to solve the problem, but you can help one child. By participating in a Hoops of Hope event, you can help us make an impact in the lives of orphan children.
